Suction catheter - for aspiration of secretions from upper and lower respiratory tracts
Suction catheter is a medical device used to remove secretions from the upper and lower respiratory tracts. It consists of a flexible tube with a suction port at one end and a mechanism for creating negative pressure at the other. The catheter is inserted through the mouth or nose into the airway and positioned near the site of secretion accumulation. The negative pressure is then activated, causing the secretions to be drawn into the suction port and removed from the patient's respiratory tract. It is used to clear secretions from the respiratory tract in patients with a tracheostomy tube or after intubation.
